HZAU Holds 2019 International Symposium on Parasite Pathogenic Biology

On November 15, 2019 International Symposium on Parasite Pathogenic Biology hosted by College of Animal Sciences and Technology / College of Veterinary Medicine was held in the No.1 comprehensive building. Professor Zhao Shuhong, Dean of College of Animal Sciences and Technology / College of Veterinary Medicine, delivered an opening speech.
More than 20 international and domestic scholars in the field of veterinary parasitology from University of Washington, UT Southwestern Medical Center and other units attended the conference. A total of 10 scholars gave oral reports to summarize the latest achievements and discuss future research directions in the field of parasitology.
At the meeting, Professor L. David Sibley, Member of NAS (National Academy of Sciences, United States), gave a report entitled "stem cell derived platform for in vitro cultivation of Cryptosporidium”, showing the research progress made by his laboratory in recent years. Furthermore, James Collins, a young professor from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, made a presentation entitled "Sex,Drug,and Snail:developing deeper molecular understanding of schistosome sexual development". It was reported that this research studied the molecular mechanism of schistosome sexual development and adopted vitro culture with human intervention to enable invitro sexual reproduction of schistosome, thus promoting the global prevention and treatment of schistosomiasis .
Hu Min, He Lan, and Shen Bang from College of Animal Sciences and Technology / College of Veterinary Medicine made reports at the meeting. Professor Shen Bang delivered a report entitled "One pot feeds all: cross-compartment cooperation during pyruvate metabolism in Toxoplasma". He introduced his laboratory's research of Toxoplasma pyruvate metabolism using CRISPR / Cas9 gene knockout technology, and the latest breakthrough generated heated discussion among scholars. The conference also covered hot topics such as gene evolution analysis of Cryptosporidium, antigenic and functional gene research of Trichinella.
