Prof. Zhang Qifa Accepts 2018 Future Science Prize in Life Science in Beijing

On Nov. 18, 2018 Future Science Prize Ceremony & Future Forum (F²) Science Symposium was held successfully at China World Hotel, Beijing. Zhang Qifa, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor from College of Life Science and Technology in HZAU, was awarded 2018 Future Science Prize in Life Science. The other two laureates were Li Jiayang and Yuan Longping. As the donors of the Prize, Ding Jian, Shen Nanpeng and Zhang Lei presented the Prize to the laureates. President Li Zhaohu and other representatives from HZAU attended the ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Zhang said: “Our alma mater, Huazhong Agricultural University and our laboratory, National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement, have provided advanced research facilities and strong support for me, our team and our research career. The professors and students in my team have also made great contributions to my personal development. Therefore, I must dedicate my award to all of them. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to my colleagues and leaders in HZAU. For the future, there is still a long way to go, our mission is arduous but glorious. Rice research is of great benefits to the mankind, and we still have a lot to do. We will strive to further our research, cultivate young talents, and keep overcoming difficulties. Furthermore, we will endeavor to make rice research a national landmark scientific achievement, so as to contribute to the well-being of whole mankind. Thank you!”

It is known that Future Science Prize is the first non-governmental science prize launched by a group of scientists and entrepreneurs in China. Life Science Prize covers all the basic disciplines related to major life science, including medical science and biological chemistry, with a bonus of $ 1 million for every single award, donated by Ding Jian, Shen Nanpeng and Zhang Lei etc.
