Nie Zhanyi from HZAU Becomes National Runner-up in Annual Contest of Mingxing Tea Art Specialist

Nie Zhanyi, a 2014 tea science major in the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences, became the runner-up on behalf of Wuhan Division in the fierce competition—National Finals of the 4th Annual Contest of “Yunchazhibang Cup” Mingxing Tea Art Specialist held in Shenzhen.
The contest is reported to have set divisions in 13 metropolises in China each year, and the judges are experts from China Tea Science Society and research institutes in universities. Nearly 1000 candidates from over 500 tea enterprises, universities or training institutions participated in the audition this year. And 11 candidates were selected to compete in the finals. The competitors were challenged in the finals on a variety of skills including voice expression, tea art, tea quality, tea etiquette, verbal skills, theme of tea table, harmonizing with the atmosphere, tea expertise, melody matching and related talent show. 
Before the competition, Nie and her supervisor, Chen Yuqiong, an associate professor of the Department of Tea Science, discussed the theme of tea art, modified the design of tea table and strengthened the skill of tea art, making full preparation for the competition. “I have learned a lot during the preparation and live show of the contest and also had deeper understanding of tea culture. I am very grateful for my teachers’ hard work in it, and glad that our efforts have been rewarded too,” Nie said after the finals.
