Prof. Xue Jianming from Royal Academy of New Zealand, invited by Prof. Hu Chengxiao from School of Resource and Environment of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), made his five-day academic visit to HZAU from October 29th to November 2nd. He is a senior expert from Forest Research Institute under Royal Academy of New Zealand, the head of Soil Group under New Zealand Research Center on the Comprehensive Utilization of Organic Waste, and a doctoral supervisor from College of Biographical Sciences, University of Canterbury.

As a part of his visit, Prof. Xue delivered two academic reports titled as "Ecological and environmental impacts of long-term biosolids application in a pine forest in New Zealand” and "Genetic and soil factors associated with variation in visible magnesium deficiency symptoms of radiata pine”, which explained in detail the impacts of long-term biosolids application on the nutrition and growth of pines, wood property, soil chemistry, biological property as well as on soil and groundwater pollution. He analyzed ecological and environmental impacts as well as genetic and soil factors associated with magnesium deficiency symptoms of radiata pine. In addition, Prof. Xue gave a comprehensive introduction of such items as experimental design, data analysis and outcome evaluation, and also conducted discussions with teachers and students.

Prof. Xue visited the lab for the long-term experiments on micro-fertilizer and the agricultural ecological experimental base for citrus in cities and rural areas, viewed the large-scale testing system of intact soil core, and came to Yichang of Hubei Province to study the modified fertilization technique for citrus and experimental demonstration of special fertilizer. Both parties involved exchanged in-depth views on academic communication, talent cultivation as well as scientific and technological cooperation in such fields as the cyclic utilization of micronutrient, recycling of organic waste, nutrition physiology of perennial plant and soil microbial ecology, and also discussed the specific arrangements for the following cooperation.
