On the afternoon of November 3, HZAU’s Vice President Guo Gangqi visited Shayang County to promote cooperation with the local government in a meeting. Chen Wei, Secretary of the Shayang County Party Committee, Li Lili, County Mayor, and Zhou Ming, Deputy Secretary of the County Party Committee, received Guogangqi and his delegation. Chen Wei presided over the meeting.
Famous for rapeseed production, Jingmen City boasts a thriving rapeseed industry. It established China’s first rapeseed culture museum, also the only one in Hubei Province. Shayang, a county of Jingmen, is the only “Hometown of Chinese Rapeseed”. This year, a sea of rapeseed flowers there has even been recommended as one of the "2023 Hubei's Most Beautiful rapeseed Floral Seas". HZAU's rapeseed research team and Jingmen Municipal People’s Government has maintained a long-term cooperation for more than 50 years.
At the meeting, both parties discussed the construction of the Rapeseed Science and Technology Backyard and a rapeseed big data platform of HZAU, as well as the implementation of commercial projects in science and technology.
Chen Wei said that universities were important for promoting scientific and technological innovation and serving local industrial development. He extended his gratitude for HZAU’s contribution to Shayang’s rural revitalization and agricultural modernization over the years, and hoped HZAU would focus on a closer cooperation with Shayang County in areas such as the integration of industries, universities and research institutes, and the building of the entire rapeseed industrial chain to achieve greater economic and social benefits.
Guo Gangqi said that HZAU had fostered close cooperation with Shayang County through dispatching experts, civil servants, and establishing the Science and Technology Backyard. Last March, the two parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement, further deepening their cooperative relations. In the future, HZAU will consider Shayang’s needs more considerately, give full play to its advantages in the agricultural field, integrate more resources, and provide technical and talent support for the high-quality development of Shayang's agricultural industry. He hoped that both parties would maintain close cooperation and jointly accelerate the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, and promote rural revitalization.
Before the meeting, Guo and his delegation also visited the Rapeseed Science and Technology Backyard and the Yangtze River Basin test base of arable land cultivation, fertilization and nutrient management positioning in Zhangchi Village, Zengji Town. The visit aimed to gather information of the base construction and technology promotion. He also visited the teachers and students working in the Science and Technology Backyard.
