HZAU Holds 2021 International Conference on Food Economics and Agricultural Sustainability

HZAU convened the International Conference Food Economics and Agricultural Sustainability from December 9 to 10, attracting scholars and academics from different countries, including China, America, Germany, Canada and Italy. A total of 39 academic reports had been given online and offline.

Prof. Li Gucheng, Dean of HZAU's College of Economics and Management,  presided over the opening ceremony. The attendees totaled over 200 with Prof. You Liangzhi (from International Food Policy Research Institute, or IFPRI), Prof. Qing Ping (HZAU Vice President), Chen Guoshun (Party Secretary of the mentioned College).

Qing first delivered the inaugural speech on behalf of HZAU, in which he showed sincere welcome and gratitude to the present faculty and students, and scholars at home and abroad. Then he highlighted what this conference intended to achieve: to delve into how to meet global food demands, upgrade agricultural technology to produce safe and healthy food, create a green and clean environment, and promote  sustainable agriculture. Finally followed his hope that the conference would inspire all attendees, reinforce friendship and help advance the discipline.

The keynote reports were made by renowned professors such as Prof. Fan Gensheng, who was director general of IFPRI and is currently chair professor at China’s Agricultural University, Prof. Marty Luckert with University of Alberta in Canada, and Prof. Daniel Muller with Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin in Germany.

Furthermore, roughly 30 overseas scholars, gave reports about global agricultural development, food and health economics, energy economics and sustainable agricultural development. They are from universities including Purdue University in America, Alberta University in Canada, Newcastle University in Britain, and University of Milan in Italy.

This conference helped enhance substantial cooperation between scholars at HZAU and abroad in academic exchanges, scientific research, technology introduction, talent cultivation, make the University more influential and competitive in the health economics, and development of green and low-carbon agriculture. The event would also provide insight into policies for agricultural sustainability.
