HZAU Holds Intl Symposium on Plant Biotic Interactions and Plant Health

Recently, the “International Symposium on Plant Biotic Interactions and Plant Health” was jointly organized both online and offline by the State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, Plant Biotic Interaction Research Center, and Hubei Key Laboratory of Crop Disease Monitoring and Safety Control at HZAU. The attendees included 16 well-known scholars in the field of plant biotic interactions from 10 countries and more than 300 researchers from universities and research institutions at home and abroad. They had in-depth discussions on plant immunity, pathogenic and beneficial interactions, effector biology, microbiota, and so on. They also came up with some methods to control plant diseases and pests in a sustainable way for food safety.

Jiang Daohong (director of State Key Laboratory and Professor of College of Plant Science and Technology) warmly welcomed the attendees. He said that despite the challenges posed to crop growth and food safety by numerous pathogens, the scientists committed to plant protection research in the world have made continuous and coordinated efforts to tackle key problems and come up with effective measures against crop diseases and pests to promote plant health.

Prof. Kenichi Tsuga concluded in the meeting that the symposium which covered many aspects of plant biotic interactions was so informative that the participants learned a lot from it. Faced with the increase of global population and food shortage, scientists need to make sustainable development schemes to prevent and control plant diseases and pests. And they are also supposed to strengthen basic and applied research on plant health and carry out in-depth global cooperation. All these efforts will make contributions to the peaceful development of human society.
