New Zealand Ambassador Ms. Clare Fearnley Pays a Visit to HZAU

On March 23, New Zealand Ambassador Ms. Clare Fearnley, accompanied by her delegation, was welcomed by HZAU’s Secretary of Party Committee Gaochi, in company with Qing Ping vice president, Hu Jian, director of America and Oceania of Foreign Affairs Office of Hubei Provincial People’s Government, and heads of HZAU’s relevant departments.

On behalf of all faculties and students, Gaochi extended a welcome to the ambassador and introduced HZAU’s history, disciplinary development and the cooperation and communication between HZAU and New Zealand’s universities and research institutions. Subsequently, Gao referred to the wheat bundle and sheep on New Zealand’s national emblem to praise the advanced agriculture and husbandry of New Zealand and the successful experience of eco-friendly cultivation and deep processing of dairy products. Gao expressed that HZAU is looking forward to having an in-depth cooperation on pollution reduction of livestock and poultry breeding , management of persistent organic pollutants, climate change, and natural and cultural heritage protection with New Zealand’s partners. He expected that this visit could boost to the cooperation and exchange of both sides and advance greater contributions to the food nutrition and health, sustainable development and the building of a better home for humanity.

Ambassador Fearnley greeted people in Maori and sang a folk song of Maori aborigines together with her fellows. She expressed her gratitude to HZAU’s warm reception. She said that China-New Zealand’s cooperation on education and science and technology is a fruitful one. She praised for the cooperation between HZAU and New Zealand universities and expressed her continuous support to facilitate a broad cooperation between HZAU and New Zealand’s higher institutions and research institutes.

Then, Fearnley and her team came to have a face-to-face exchange with 30-odd teachers and students in the No.1 Comprehensive Building. The meeting was hosted by Qing ping. Professor Chen Wenli briefed on China-New Zealand governmental cooperation project with Massey University. Prof. Hu Chengxiao introduced HZAU’s cooperation and exchange with Royal Academy of Forestry Sciences of New Zealand on agricultural resources and environmental disciplines. Fearnley had a great exchange with participants on cooperation of technological innovation, agricultural development and talent exchange.

Fearnley also attended the photo exhibition of cooperation between HZAU and New Zealand’s universities and research institutions and visited Key Laboratory of Horticultural Plant Biology of Ministry of Education.
