Sci-tech Achievements Evaluation Meeting Held in HZAU

On May 19th, the Sci-tech Achievements Evaluation Meeting of Assess Establishment and Application of Agricultural Development – Pollution Treatment Mechanism for Rural Non-point Source Nitrogen Pollution in Hilly Areas was held in HZAU. HZAU, Shiyan Agricultural Eco-environmental Protection Station and Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences have contributed in unison to the achievements. Zhou Xiong, director of Hubei Technology Exchange, presided over the meeting, and Liu Guanglong, associate professor from College of Resources & Environment in HZAU, made the report on their work.

Lv Shouhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Resources & Environment, and Wu Yingying, Director of the General Management Department of Institute of Science and Technology of HZAU, addressed the meeting. Other attendees included Xie Deti, Professor of College of Resources and Environment of Southwest University, Li Zhaohua, Professor of Faculty of Resources and Environmental Science of Hubei University, Zhou Yiyong, Researcher of Institute of Hydrobiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fang Jimin, Professor of School of Resources and Environmental Engineering of Wuhan University of Technology, and Wang Li, Professor of School of Resource and Environmental Engineering of Wuhan University of Science and Technology. Main contributors also attended the meeting, including Professor Hu Ronggui, Associate Professor Hua Yumei, Associate Professor Zhao Jianwei, Associate Professor Lin Shan, Xu Yansheng of Science and Technology Development Research Institute of HZAU, Chairman Ji Zhenghua and Vice-Chairman Li Tao of Shiyan Agricultural Eco-environmental Protection Station, Researcher Xue Lihong of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

According to the report, the achievements have been based on long-term and systematic researches on the treatment of rural non-point source nitrogen pollution in hilly areas and shed light on the main sources, forms and transport channels of rural non-point source nitrogen pollution. In light of the characteristics of agricultural development and pollution sources in hilly areas, the team, taking the circular use of nitrogen resources as the core, have developed the technology of safely purifying paddy fields polluted by domestic sewage and biogas slurry in villages and towns, integrated the technology of connecting eco-planting with irrigation canals and ditches to reduce pollution in an all-about way and the technology of absorbing all feces circulating at various levels while planting, built up the mechanism of effectively utilizing non-point source nitrogen in the agricultural chain, and established the mode of combing agricultural development and pollution treatment, thus easing the difficulty in implementing the pollution treatment technology in rural areas. The achievements have claimed 18 patents and over 40 papers and produced 8 local standards, with the technology being applied in village rejuvenation and poverty alleviation in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and other provinces and cities as a system with its own intellectual property rights, supporting the construction of Danjiangkou reservoir areas and upstream eco-clean watersheds and bringing remarkable economic, environmental and social benefits.
