The Opening Ceremony of Science Popularization Month on Landscape Architecture Held in HZAU

On April 3rd at noon, the opening ceremony of a series of science popularization activities on Landscape Architecture held in HZAU. With the theme of “Landscape Architecture and Beautiful Homeland”, the activity was initiated by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture (CHSLA), hosted by the Landscape Architecture Society of Hubei province (HBLAS), organized by HZAU and Wuhan Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Attendees included Professor Gao Chi, Chairman of the HBLAS and discipline leader of Landscape Architecture in HZAU. Li Jianwei, President of the Landscape Architecture Committee of Architecture and Culture Society of China, and Fu Jianguo, Deputy Director of the Hubei Urban Management and Law Enforcement Supervision Bureau. This activity attracted more than 200 participants from the Landscape Architecture, industry and academia. Zhang Bin, Professor of the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences, hosted the ceremony.

Gao Chi pointed out that we must carry out the guiding principles of Xi Jinping’s important speeches when he inspected Hubei, and practice the idea of green development. Gao proposed new requirements and goals for the construction of landscape architecture in Hubei. Organizing such science popularization activities will help publicize the landscape architecture, convey its connotations, and let the society know more about protecting the landscape architecture, so as to create a good ecological environment and safeguard a beautiful homeland. Gao said that landscape architecture is of great significance to the development of human civilization. Landscape architects should take up this historical mission and grasp the opportunity in this new era. Believing in the concept that landscape architecture creates a sustainable and beautiful life, landscape architects will unite their strength and work together to write a beautiful chapter in the new era.

Fu Jianguo summed up the achievements of the HBLAS and the construction of the urban landscaping, proposed four objectives of green landscape projects in Hubei in 2019, and put forward architectural and ideological requirements accordingly. He pointed out that the work of landscape architecture in Hubei should start with the reality, adapt to local conditions, and grasp the crux. Under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s instructions that “urban management should be as exquisite as embroidery” and the Central City Work Conference, we should improve the living environment as well as the quality of the city, and promote the high-quality development of landscape architecture in Hubei.

After the opening ceremony, Li Jianwei made a report entitled “National Territory Planning: Approaches from the landscape architecture”. He pointed out that the spatial ecological patterning was the key technology in landscape planning, and landscape architecture should be an important part of national land planning. Landscape planning is the planning for the survival and development of living organisms, and is not limited to the functional planning of physical space. National territory planning is not only a “multi-regulation”, but an ideology based on the protection and comprehensive utilization of natural resources under the guidance of the updated planning philosophy. At the end of the report, he expounded the connotation and extension of landscape architecture in the new era, and shared the experience of implementing “Dajiang Strategy” of building beautiful China.

It is learned that the series of science popularization activities on Landscape Architecture is initiated by the CHSLA in response to the “World Landscape Architecture Month” advocated by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). It aims to popularize the knowledge of landscape architecture, and expand its social influence. By enhancing the apprehension and appreciation of landscape architecture, the public will be encouraged to pay attention to the construction of ecological civilization and harmonious human settlements.
