UF Scholars Attend the Bilateral Seminar on Horticulture in HZAU

On the morning of December 8th, the opening ceremony of bilateral seminar on horticulture between University of Florida (UF) and HZAU was held in the conference hall, Horticulture& Forestry Sciences Building. Wu Ping and Zhang Hongrong , Vice-president of HZAU and Party Secretary of College of Horticulture& Forestry Sciences (CHFS) of HZAU attended the ceremony. Prof. Kuang Hanhui of CHFS, presided over the ceremony.

In the opening speech, Wu welcomed the nine scholars from UF and introduced the history, geographical environment, enrollment and achievements in scientific research of HZAU. She wished that the seminar could further strengthen academic cooperation, talent training and scientific research between the two universities. Zhang presented the basic conditions of the college and said that this seminar was of great significance in promoting the research and cooperation on horticulture between UF and HZAU.

Then, nine scholars from UF including Jeffrey B.Jones and Sandra B.Wilson, and eight teachers in HZAU including Kuang Hanhui and Guo Wenwu gave presentations respectively. Their topics covered: multiple metabolism of citrus, metabolic adaptation of polyploid, formation of fruit quality, breeding approaches for disease resistance, genetic and molecular mechanisms of double petals of ornamental plants, genetic improvement of clonal reproductive crops, breeding of patanus acerifolia, international transmission of bacterial wilt and new pathogen-host interactions, identification of key genes for strawberry flower and fruit development, improvement of comprehensive technologies for the increase of production and marketing of sweet corns——Sweet Crown, improvement of abiotic stress tolerance of cucurbit crops by grafting, integrated methods for disease management in Florida fresh tomato industry, regulation of malic acid and ascorbic acid in tomatoes, genetic improvement of lettuce by QTL mapping and biotechnological means, and genetic analysis of heading traits of vegetables, etc.

After the seminar, the scholars visited the Key Laboratory of Horticultural Plant Biology (HZAU), MOE, as well as some places for teaching and scientific research including the Citrus Base and Flower Cultivation Base.
