The Delegation from University of Canterbury, New Zealand Visits HZAU

On October 15th, Professor Ian MacDonald, director of International Growth Strategies of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, visited HZAU with his team and delivered a lecture titled “New Zealand’s International Growth Strategies: Education as a driver of economic, social and global growth.”

Being a former employee in the University of Calgary, Canada, and the University of Lincoln, New Zealand, Professor Ian McDonald has rich experience in international cooperation and strategic growth. Beginning with basic theory of economics, he explored the role of education as a driver of economic, social and global growth based on detailed statistical analyses from the perspectives of GDP growth drivers, New Zealand’s economic productivity, global citizenship, and the internationalization of curriculum, teachers, and students. When interacting with his audience, he introduced the types of student programs, specialties, and foreign language proficiency requirements at the University of Canterbury as well as the short-term summer and winter visiting programs.

The delegation visited the College of Horticultural & Forestry Sciences and exchanged views on exchange programs and scientific research cooperation during their stay at HZAU. They also paid a visit to the Key Laboratory of Horticultural Plant Biology, Ministry of Education and the National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement.
