The first research partner from HZAU awarded a Chinese-Egyptian Research Fund

On the occasion of the visit by President XI JINPING, President of the People's Republic of China, to Egypt in January 2016, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) agreed to establish a Chinese-Egyptian Research Fund (CERF) for the support of joint application-oriented research projects. The implementing agencies are the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) for the Egyptian applicants, and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) for the Chinese applicants. The project duration is 24 months and the fund of the Chinese side is 1.5 million Chinese Yuan, while the budget of the Egyptian side is 1.7 million Egyptian Pounds.

Prof. Wang Man-Qun, Professor of Entomology and Vice-Dean college of Plant Science and Technology is the Chinese PI for the project, while the Egyptian PI is Prof. Hazem Abdelnabby, Prof. of Pest Control from Benha University (BU). The two professors are outstanding professors with high international reputation in their majors. They are considered as the first research partners from HZAU and BU to win an International Chinese-Egyptian Research Fund. The title of their project is: Interactions between below- and above-ground herbivores as influenced by application of certain green multi-functional combinations for biomanagement of plant pests.


It is worth noting that Prof. Abdelnabby is working in China From 2013 to date. He is currently doing his research at Huazhong Agricultural University(HZAU) as a postdoc research associate.The research achievements of Prof. Abdelnabby in soil fauna along 20 years to date are largely embodied in soil health improvement and published more than 30 international SCI publications in peer reviewed journals. He awarded the PhD from Technical University-Braunschweig in Germany and his thesis was published as a book which is distributed worldwide. Afterwards, he moved to USA and worked as visiting scientist at United States Department of Agriculture "USDA". He designed a new biological technique in controlling plant nematodes in soil. This accomplishment was registered as a patent at the Egyptian Patent Office in Cairo (Patent No. 025745). He is also the first Egyptian who win the international position of Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP) funded by MOST at HZAU.

Beside his academic and research work, Prof. Abdelnabby was appointed from BU as Coordinator for International Relations with chinese Universities. As a result of his position, more than 15 MOUs between BU and high-ranked Chinese Universities were signed and activated, about 50 postgraduate and post-doctoral Egyptian candidates were granted scholarships in China, co-organized 3 international forums and conferences in HZAU and BU, organized 4 Chinese student delegations visits to Egypt, arranged many visits for academic leaders between Egypt and China. He is also a member of the University Alliance of Silk Road (UASR).
