Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University visits HZAU

On the morning of April 26, a six-member delegation headed by Vice-Chancellor Jane Den Hollander from Deakin University, Australia, visited HZAU and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with HZAU. Prof. Gao Chi, the Party Secretary of HZAU, and Vice President Zhang Xianlong, received the delegation in the conference room of the administrative building, accompanied by the heads of College of Food Sciences & Technology, Academic Affairs Office, and International Cooperation and Exchange Office.

In Gao’s opening remarks, he extended a warm welcome to the delegation and spoke highly of Deakin’s strategic plan LIVE the future 2020 (Learning, Ideas, Value, Experience). He also made an introduction about the recent achievements at HZAU, especially those related to the “Double First-Class” construction. Moreover, this visiting and exchange, he hoped, would provide an opportunity to enhance cooperation between the two universities in talent cultivation and scientific research, ensuring implementation of the programme. And Prof. Gao ended his speech by warmly inviting Jane Den Hollander and her colleagues to attend HZAU 120th anniversary this October.

Prof. Zhang made an introduction about HZAU, covering its history, profile, disciplines distribution, dominant disciplines, and the status quo of international exchanges and cooperation. Taking it as an important way of developing world-class disciplines, HZAU has been placing a high priority on globally connected education with renowned universities and research institute. Meanwhile, he hoped the visit of Jane Den Hollander’s delegation would cement cooperation between the two universities and facilitate the joint programme in Food Nutrition.

Jane Den Hollander expressed her thanks for the warm reception and greatly appreciated the HZAU’s achievements over the past years. Deakin University, she said, has enjoyed great momentum of growth in recent years, with sports science currently ranking No. 1 in the world, five disciplines among the global top 100, and student satisfaction rated No.1 in Victoria, Australia for eight years. Besides, She stated that Deakin University hoped to deepen cooperation with HZAU in scientific research and talent cultivation.

Subsequently, the details of cooperation were discussed in depth. After the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, followed by Jane’s inscription for the HZAU 120th anniversary. During the visit, the delegation also visited the National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement, accompanied by Prof. Zhang.
