HZAU’s National “New Engineering” Research and Practice Project Approved

The project “Exploration and Practice of Agricultural Engineering Talent Training Mode Based on Multidisciplinary Integration in Agriculture and Forestry Institutes” led by Prof Liao Qingxi, Dean of the College of Engineering of Huazhong Agricultural University(HZAU), was listed among the National New Engineering Research and Practice Projects announced by Ministry of Education(MOE) recently.
The project was one of comprehensive “New Engineering” reform projects for universities with strong engineering discipline. Following the new requirements for professional knowledge and skills in the national economic growth and the new standards set for new engineering talent training, this project combines the national strategy with the specific need of agricultural development and theoretical studies with practical training, aiming at exploring and constructing a new talent training model for nurturing leading academics with systematic knowledge of new agricultural engineering, who will be representing the distinctive features of agricultural industry and the strengths and characteristics of the agricultural and forestry universities.
With the successful accession to “Washington Accord”, China’s engineering education has achieved historic breakthroughs. In 2017, MOE launched the “New Engineering” development plan in response to the challenges brought about by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. To serve the innovation-driven development and implementation of major initiatives such as the “Belt and Road Initiative”, “Made in China 2025” and “Internet +” in China, and support the transformation and upgrading of industries, MOE accelerates the reform and innovation of engineering education and fosters a large number of diversified, innovative talents in the fields of engineering, science and technology.
Since the implementation of the plan, MOE has been devoted to the research and practice reform of new engineering disciplines, and “Consensus in Fudan University”, “Action in Tianjin University” and “Beijing Guide” have been formed in succession. MOE has been dedicated to exploring a Chinese model and cumulating experiences that will help China lead global engineering education and rendering China a powerhouse in higher education. MOE’s approval of the new engineering project means that the construction of new engineering disciplines highly concerned by higher education is about to start.
