International Student Zahoor Published Two Research Papers

Recently, Zahoor, doctoral student from College of Plant Science & Technology of HZAU , also a member at the Research Group of Biomass, published two academic papers on Bioresource Technology—an International Journal of Agricultural Engineering.

The international community, especially the researchers, has increasingly gravitated to lignocellulosic biomass and its development technology which is used to produce the second generation of bioethanol. The cost-effective bioethanol conversion technology will help us grapple with energy crisis and environmental threats.

Under the guidance of Prof. Peng Liangcai, Zahoor with nearly five years of devotion, put forward an efficient and energy-saving saccharification technology of wheat straw which could boost the ethanol productivity to 19.4%, a conversion rate higher than anywhere else in the world. At the same time, in the cooperation with Pro. Huang Jianliang, he applied Huang’s rice type with different nitrogen fertilizer combinations. Finally it was found that the application of nitrogen fertilizer affected the characteristics of rice lignocellulose and the accumulation of silicon in the stalk , thus improving the efficiency of biomass saccharification greatly. Also Zahoor was the first to unveil the relation between the application of nitrogen fertilizer and the efficiency of biomass degradation. The research results were published online at Bioresource Technology magazine on June 22, 2017 and July 12, 2017.
