Outstanding Performance in National Collegiate Life Science Innovation Contest



Students of our university had brilliant performance in the first National Collegiate Life Science Innovative Experiment Contest as the “Inner Mongolia University Cup" concluded recently in Hohhot city (provincial capital), ranking the first among universities of agriculture and forestry and one of the best participating universities from Hubei province. They got one first prize, one second prize and two third prizes and the University won Outstanding Organization Award.

The contest runs through 6 steps: application, initial review, first assessment, preliminary contest, final contest and final committee rating. 85 teams from 51 colleges and universities fought their way to the final after the preliminary contest.

The first prize was claimed by Zhang Zicheng and Wen Jiahao guided by Prof Zhang Jiuliang from College of Food Science & Technology with their competing project “Effects of Anthocyanins from Purple Sweet Potato on Serum Uric Acid Level and Xanthine Oxidase Activity in Hyperuricemic Mice,” ranking the third in overall performance. The second prize came to Nie Chunhong and Guan Ningnan guided by Associate Professor Gao Zexia from College of Fisheries with their project “Study on Intermuscular Bone of Megalobrama.” Furthermore, Zhang Ze and Li Yuhui also from College of Fisheries won a third prize for their project “Streptococcus agalactiae Infection in Tilapia of Guangdong Area and Its Drug Resistance” under the guidance of Lecturer Wei Shun. So did Zhang Dahan from College of Life Science and Technology for project “Evolution Analysis of Rice Protein S5-ORF3” guided by Professor Yidan Ouyang.



This contest, sponsored by both Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Educational Institutions and the Bioscience Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee, aims to provide a communicative platform for college students majoring in bioscience and food science and to promote innovative scientific experiments in tertiary institutions and public entrepreneurship so that more creative talents in science and technology could be cultivated and discovered.
