The 2022 1st Animal Disease and Health Forum Brings a Successful Close in HZAU

On May 16th, the three-day Animal Diseases and Health Forum came to an end in HZAU. Adhering to the concept “One Health”, the forum focused on animal diseases and their related interdisciplinary fields, and paid attention to the latest research and technological progress of animal diseases closely related to human health. This forum was jointly organized by the editorial office of Animal Diseases, College of Animal Sciences & Technology and College of Veterinary Medicine.

Prof. Chen Huanchun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Qing Ping, Vice President of HZAU, Prof. Zhao Shuhong and Prof. Jin Meilin, as well as Academician Zhang Gaiping of Peking University, Prof. Jürgen A. Richt of Kansas State University, Prof. Shafiqul Chowdhury of Louisiana State University, Researcher Shi Zhengli of Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Wang Hongning of Sichuan University and editorial board members of Animal Diseases attended the opening ceremony of the forum on May 14th.

Prof. Zhen F. Fu, the chief editor of Animal Diseases presided over the opening ceremony. Qing Ping delivered the opening speech in which he pointed out that animals and humans were inseparable, so animal diseases were related to human health and social development. The outbreak of Covid-19 had adversely affected higher education and cultural exchange. And this forum provided a valuable platform for scholars worldwide to exchange ideas to address the threats and challenges posed by animal and animal-derived diseases.

Academician Chen Huanchun, in his closing speech, stressed that progress in animal health research and practice is to maintain human health. He also encouraged the participants to take etiology, pathogenesis and epidemiology as their primary research tasks, and hoped that this forum would provide a platform for communication, advocacy and interaction to control and eradicate major animal diseases, improve clinical veterinary standards and maintain the common health of humans and animals, and called on everyone to make efforts to build a global village with a beautiful environment for survival.

The conference was held offline and online, including invited talks, three keynote speeches and a youth forum session. 36 scientists from 7 countries in the field of animal disease research made reports and exchanged the latest advances with the participants. The forum was interactive on multiple platforms through live broadcast and other forms, with more than 13,000 young scholars, scientific workers and students from research institutes, universities and enterprises worldwide, with a total of 35,847 people attending the conference online.

It is reported that the 2nd Animal Disease and Health Forum will be held in 2024.
